Editorial Foreword
Welcome to the eleventh edition of the UNRV Roman History newsletter. It’s
been more then five months since our last newsletter and we hope to have more regular updates in the future to stay up to date. Since our last newsletter we had our second successful Historical Essay Competition and we upgraded our community forum to what we believe is a far more pleasing look with extra user features.
1. Interesting threads from the Forum
===============================
Why was Caesar a great general?
Democracy in the Empire
The Growth of Catholicism. How and why did it occur?
Why Romans Didn't Charge
Romans eating out. Did the plebeians really live on takeaways?
Where were the Scythians? Herodotus isn't clear...
Also... while HBO's television series "Rome" has had its final curtain call in the USA,
Season 2 will be making its BBC debut in the UK in the coming months. Discuss the highs
and lows of the series, the historical veracity, your favorite scenes and actors, etc. in our dedicated sub-forum!

3. Forum Upgrade and Historical Essay Competition
=======================
Early in the year we held a Historical Essay Competition that was won by forum member ‘The Augusta’. We received several compelling entries on a variety of Roman historical subjects and you can read the winning essay as well as all entires in the Academia Forum.
The biggest change on unrv.com since the last newsletter is the optical enhancement of the forum. It has a fresh new look and feel (with what we feel is a more ‘Romanesque’ attitude) along with added functionality. The community Blogs and the Gallery sections also benefited from these upgrades… why not have a look for yourself.
