thomas279
The mask was found in the ground when. We did not find anything near it (nor did we try to search).

pompeius magnus
I have one person who suggested it might be Celtic, but if we can know a more precise location the identification will be much faster and more accurate.

Primus Pilus
If it was found in France, that makes a Greek Theatre mask unlikely. However, there were certainly Greek actors throughout the Empire at any given time, so carbon dating would also help. I'm also leaning towards Celtic. pompeius magnus
If its northern France, then its almost guaranteed a celtic mask, or a gaulic mask depending on its age.
thomas279
How old could it be?
pompeius magnus
Go to a museum and they could give an accurate date of the mask.
Guest praetor
The mask looks like the front panel of a cavalry parade helmet. These were used for ceremonial purposes only. Here is a link to an example that looks like the mask : http://www.imh.org/khp/jpg/cavmask.jpg
