Bryaxis Hecatee
Unfortunately taking picture was not allowed and the lighting was poor, yet I was able to take some pics of three very famous 4th century helmets that were on display : http://picasaweb.google.be/bryaxis/TrierAo...squesMilitaires You can also find other pictures ( non military related ) of the exibition at : http://picasaweb.google.be/bryaxis/TrierAo...nstantinLeGrand
DecimusCaesar
Thank you very much for sharing your photographs Bryaxis! Is that the Berkasova type 1 that is dispalyed in your photographs? It is a wonderful looking helmet. I believe that Ammianus Marcellinus describes a similar precious tone encrusted helmet. I think that Julian the Apostate might have lost a similar looking helmet into a river.
Klingan
The Tetrarch statue, is it the original or a copy? I was quite sure that it's kinda stuck in the wall of St Mark's in Venice.
Bryaxis Hecatee
@DecimusCaesar : indeed it is the Berkasova helmet. The second complete helmet is from the same place too. @Klingan : yes it was a copy, as were the giant Constantius head and arm/hand from Maxentius' basilica. In fact they were quite some copies among the statues, but they were also originals
