Iphicrates' Reforms

Hello

Here is one of my latest illustrations

http://community.imaginefx.com/fxpose/jp_v...cture47144.aspx

It depicts Greek Light Troops of the early 4th Century BC, the consequence of Iphicrates reforms.

I would appreciate all commentaries, particularly historically; this illustration was based on published works and, as this is a subject of much debate (Iphicrates' reforms), I would love all extra data that can be present in order to improve the historically accuracy of this illustration.

Of course artistically comments are also very welcome.

Many thanks to all

Best regards

JP Vieira

Excellent illustration JP! I like the adittion of the Peltast to the picture. The only source I can think of that discusses the Iphicratid infantry is John Warry's Warfare in the Classical World, although I'm sure that you already have this book. You might try some of the books written by Nicholas Sekunda. He has written extensively on Greek Warfare, and he also includes illustrations in his works. You might have to buy his academic titles, although they are very expensive.

I understand that thru this reforms a mix between hoplite and peltasts was made. The soldier would have a peltast shield and a very long spear. The soldiers in your excelent illustration look from classical Greece to me.
