Ursus
One can't assign modern political factions to an era that had no use for organized political parties.
ASCLEPIADES
According to today's standards, who would consider Julius Caesar a Democrat..a Republican? Why? I think that for Caesar (and any other roman politician), his party was HIM, and maybe his family. Impoverished aristocrats like Caesar or Sulla tended to be more radical ("revolutionary"), while new men like Cato Maiorus or Cicero tended to be more conservative. M. Porcius Cato
I think that for Caesar (and any other roman politician), his party was HIM, and maybe his family. Impoverished aristocrats like Caesar or Sulla tended to be more radical ("revolutionary"), while new men like Cato Maiorus or Cicero tended to be more conservative. Certainly there weren't political parties in the modern sense, but there were also conflicting opinions regarding policy, and at least short-term alliances arose to enact the policies. caldrail
Julius Caesar might be described as an increasingly influential independent politician. An outsider with frank views but a lot of charisma and support amongst the common people. A self made war hero too, so a very colourful character that was not above the sort of military adventuring that gets people hauled into court these days... but then his rivals nearly did that didn't they?
