Although I find that the stubborn mule happens to be called Pertinax , I hope this site will be of interest:

Hahahaha! I had to smile, when I saw the name of that mule! But it's appropriate, isn't it? As one of the meanings of "pertinax" is "stubborn"! :D

Flavia Gemina, did you have a hand in designing these games? I thought I saw your hand in naming the mule, as a lot of the names in your books describe the attributes of the characters.

I'm registered as "Nephele" for the game, and I've already completed the first four parts and received my mysterious scraps of scroll. I presume they'll have something to do with the final game next week.

I was relying more on the possible meaning "persrevering" :D

Yes, they let me help design the games! :D

Aren't the settings fun? And isn't the music great?

Only one glitch. If you register as one name I don't know if you can play again. At least I couldn't. I keep having to register with new names.

I did think of you, Pertinax, but thought it judicious to hold my tongue! :D

Enjoy the game!

Pertinax the mule was a grumpy looking old thing wasn't he? I hope our Pertinax is a bit more cheerful in real life! :D

I've just received my four scraps of scroll as well, mmmmm I wonder what the final mystery will be???

I just realized those are pottery shards we've been collecting. I've got to pay closer attention!

Hey, here's another, similar Roman mystery game from the BBC:

Death in Rome

I solved the mystery with only 10 minutes to spare! Mr. Monk, where are you?

Once all the clues had been collected it became pretty obvious how he died, I'm starting to feel like Gordianus the Finder after all these mysteries I've been solving lately!

Ah, GPM - if we are sticking with the equine theme - Our Pertinax is more Red Rum than Eeyore....

As for this thread - did someone mention 'game'? I'm off to join in...

ETA: I've just had a quick visit and completed the first one. Delightful stuff, Flavia! I look forward to solving more mysteries.

Hehe - and talking of which, this reminds me that there was actually a historical equine, name of Pertinax, who raced during Commodus' reign (fittingly enough...)

First Pertinax the stubborn Mule and now me! :P

I am Cornelia the cart-driver in the fifth and final part of the Roman Mysteries interactive games, The Orb of Augustus: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/romanmysteries/

Big thanks to Nephele for providing me with such a neat Roman anagram of my name: Caroline = Cornelia

Flavia

P.S. If you want to play that particular game you have to complete the previous four successfully and collect a fragment of a virtual kylix. Hint: in my cart are three items: wine, vinegar and turpentine. If one doesn't work you can go back and take another (once you've given me the kylix). And before you ask, yes, there was turpentine in Roman times. It's mentioned by Pliny the Elder!

Heyyyy... Is that our Pertinax hitched up to your cart, Cornelia? ;)

I played the game already, and now I'm all done. Time for you to think up some more online mysteries to solve, FG! :P

I think it's a horse (not very accurate -- I TOLD them Romans rarely used horses with carts) so I think Pertinax is off the hool! ;)
