Caldrail makes a wager with NN concerning the bereft lady wandering the villa for him....

Yes. Caldrail wagers she does, NN wagers that she certainly DOESN'T! NN looks longingly at his original, intended target. She holds court to a group of rich, handsome Patrician men: the moment has passed, irrevocably. The bereft elderly matron talks to Gaius Octavius, who, with a broad grin, points to the column behind which NN is hiding. Caldrail, with a cheesy grin, indicates the same column with both index fingers. Time to run...

It has become clear to the Augusta that the elderly matron has now outstayed her welcome and is making several personable men feel very uncomfortable. Although she promised Doc she would be a good girl at this party, she cannot resist falling into her old ways and kindly offers to accompany the elderly matron out to the garden for a quick breath of air and a look at the fig trees.

Just don't completely dispatch her...just make her lost...or something... :whistling:

*Doc winks and smiles in Augusta's direction...one distraction is avoided.*

 Caldrail remembers a conversation about cat-litter.....

Caldrail, in a sudden uncharacteristic 'kirk douglas' moment, whisks the elderly matron away whilst the Augusta is busy with Docoflove. He lifts her her on a passing wagon and tells the drayman to carry her to safety. Only doing my duty ma'am. Now a discreet return to the party before anyone notices I'm gone... Quick, find a group of people to mingle with....

  • 2 weeks later...

Augustus Caesar shows up just in time to witness this dastardly deed by Caldrail!! Question is - does he bribe Caldrail or become a party pooper and tell all to an aghast audience? AC ponders this behind the huge marble pillar no-one noticed was there before...

Caldrail will have to get up very early in the morning to outwit the Augusta when she has a victim in her sights. Her four Nubians apprehend the carriage as it is wending its way down a leafy track towards safetly.

Then she returns to the room having sent the elderly matron on her way - Doc will ask no questions, and Caldrail has learned his lesson - and sees that her husband has arrived. And this - after she left him at home in the hands of his physicians who were administering the sand and reed treatment for his rheumatic hip! As much as she loves him, she is most put out that he is here to attempt to spoil her fun, so she retires into an alcove with NN to think of a cunning plan - and quickly!

Hmmmm...Doc seeks out Nephele, so that she may weave her wonders once again, and make sure that the merry continues (and the Augusta doesn't get Neil into a heap of trouble).

Oh, and to ensure the merry-making...Doc runs down to the cellars to have her servants bring up her best wine, and brings her friends around for a drink of merry good cheer. Hopefully that'll assuage all uneasiness!

And in the meantime AC will remain hidden behind the pillar pondering his next move...

Will he get an invite from the hosts to join in this most merry of habnabs? Or will he be left in the cold to shiver and freeze although it's nice and warm outside? It's not easy being an emperor....

Nephele hears the summons of Docoflove and returns to the party, leading a panther on a leash. She spies Augustus Caesar hiding behind a pillar.

"Augie C.!" exclaims Nephele, "What are you doing hiding behind this pillar? Here, watch my panther for me while I go powder my nose." Nephele thrusts the panther's leash into A.C.'s hand and then swans off across the atrium.

Augustus Caesar stands uncomfortably with the panther's leash in his hand. The panther looks up at Augustus with some interest, and licks its chops. "How odd," muses Augustus Caesar. "I didn't think panthers could smile..."

...Which is a strange notion, considering who he is married to! On that very proper note, the Augusta sees that her husband is being ignored by many and used as a pet-minding service by Nephele. Although she is having an amusing time in the alcove, duty calls and she makes her way towards her long-suffering husband, holding out the peace offering of a cup of the best Falernian (with NO additives). 'Right, husband,' she tells him tersely, 'let's get this show on the road!' And with that, she leads him into the fray where Caldrail, waving his sword rather timidly now, and bereft of his helmet, greets his emperor with a beaming smile....
