votadini
Very nice. Thanks for sharing. Were the dromedaries used as fighting latforms or simply for mobility in the desert?
Gaius Octavius
I think that I can see a bow behind him. What are those things in what looks like a quiver. They don't appear to be arrows.
Pantagathus
That is a very nice illustration JPV!
Lost_Warrior
I think the things in the quiver are throwing spears. Nice work!!
Gaius Paulinus Maximus
I think the things in the quiver are throwing spears. Nice work!! Not sure that i agree LW, he's already holding a spear in his hand, thats definately a bow behind him so he must be carrying arrows, maybe JP just forgot to add the feathers/flights to the ends( heaven forbid! ) I think only JP can answer this one. Oh yes by the way, as always excellent work JP
spittle
Great stuff, JPV. Have you any illustrations of the more well known soldiers> I am guessing they are the late republic/early pricipate legionaries. The ones with the leather skirts and red plumed helmets?? You need pairing up with an author to illustrate their work. Unless your talents are capable of illustrating your own writings? I'd buy a book of your pictures that simply detailed the changed in the Roman military over the centuries and I'm sure many more would too. DecimusCaesar
An excellent picture JPV on a little known subject. It's very well done!
JP Vieira
Hello Many thanks to all for your feedback. To answer some questions raised: - these units were probably used as scouts and not as a shock force. - the quiver behind the bow case is for javelins; the arrow quiver is on the other side of the mount, and so is not visible. - i have illustrated other Roman troop types, including a 1st century AD Legionary. for last it is great to know that my work is appreciated and would find buyers whenever is published. I am just starting my career and I hope that in a near future some of my work will be published in book form. Best regards to all JP Vieira
