Guest rchar
Hi All, I trying to remember the name and author of a story that was required reading in my Roman History class at Cal State Long Beach about twenty years ago. It read like a comedy, and--though I may be mis-remembering--seemed to feature Bacchus or Dionysus, and may have revolved around a wedding or some such. I remember distinctly seeing parallels in style and content to the New Testament Gospels and early Christian ideas like pacifism and poverty. Though it may be wrong, it seemed to me the author's name started with an A. Any ideas? Sorry I'm being so vague, but it has been a long time. Northern Neil
Many of the stories associated with Jesus were first attributed to Pagan gods like Bacchus and Dionysus. The Augusta
Nothing new to me, guys. In my simple way (and is there any other way to see religion?) I have always equated Jesus with Dionysos. Consuming of his flesh and the wine being the blood etc. (Didn't the maenads believe they had a sort of immortality through consuming 'Dionysos'' flesh?) It seems so obvious to me.....
DecimusCaesar
Interesting ideas. I can certainly see some similarities between some of the Pagan religions and Christianity. There are even some similarities between Jupiter and God, especially the God of the old testament.
