Segestan
Justinian named Tiberious after having associated him for four years , he Justianian , then peacfully expired. "Constantinople saw in Tiberious another Trajan. While he was engaged in repelling the Avars in Dacia , his generals gained over the Persians the victories of Melitene and Constantine. Maurice was rewarded with the hand of the daughter of tiberious, and shortly after ascended the throne of his father-in-law , who on his death bed had selected him as worthiest of its honours and duties , 582.Maurice , less fortunate as emperor than as general, was unable to maintain his Persian conquests. The satrap Varanes ( Bahram) , after having conquered the Turks ( the Roman Ally) , was penetrating into Asia Minor , when he was defeated by the Grecian Forces"
Philhellene
Why Mauritius? He`s Mauricius.
Philhellene
This article is too brief and not very informative. Tobias didn`t mention Mauricius` parents and relatives, his son and co-emperor Theodosius... Then I can`t find any information about his military career before his accession to throne, about Persian campaigns, triumph... When he became Caesar or Augustus? When he was overthrown by Phocas? Why did Phocas rebel? Edited December 21, 2006 by Philhellene
