The eruption occurred 3,600 years ago on the Santorini archipelago, whose largest island is Thera. Santorini is located in the Aegean Sea about 125 miles (200 kilometers) southeast of modern-day Greece. full article at National Geographic

FLavius Valerius Constantinus
Funny, besides the Atlantis crap, this volcanic eruption is legitimately believed to have caused the horrible plagues of the Exodus from the Bible. When I saw the documenary on this, I was so convinced because there was a modern day comparison that happened in Cameroon that matched the plagues of the Exodus. Really scary. I saw that too, the science definately makes sense.
