Viggen
A priceless gold bust of emperor-philosopher Marcus Aurelius, one of Europe's greatest Roman relics, has returned to this quiet Swiss town where it was found in an ancient sewer 67 years ago. One of only three golden imperial busts to have survived across the vast territories of Rome's empire, the excitement surrounding its discovery in 1939 was so great that residents who witnessed it still talk about it today. full article at Reuters
Gaius Octavius
My opinion. What is the point of keeping these treasures of mankind locked up in vaults? If one doesn't want to keep it in situ, then DISPLAY it in a well protected public museum. The point behind making the bust in the first place was to display it and not to keep it locked up in a closet for the benefit of the elect few. Its value is not in the gold content, but in itself. It does not 'belong' to any particular person or institution; it belongs to you and to me. It can just as easily be stolen from a vault as a museum. As a matter of fact, it most certainly will 'disappear' from a vault sooner than a museum a la Willy Sutton. The Brooklyn Museum is alleged to have one of the finest collections of Egyptian artifacts outside of Egypt - mouldering away in its basement. Like to wager that these little bits of history have a penchant for, euphimistically, getting themselves 'lost'? Antiochus of Seleucia
Too bad most of the archeological articles don't show pictures, especially this one.

Gaius Octavius
If you do an image search on google you can find this: Gold Marcus Antiochus, look at the picture in the first row, last to the right, in the Gold Marcus above, and if you can, put it into the 'SYMBOLISM' thread. That shows the 'hand' better. Thanks
