Viggen
A spectacular discovery of Stone Age menhirs in Brittany could unlock the code to one of the most puzzling chapters of human development, and transform our knowledge of mankind's early history... full article at the Independent
Pantagathus
In other words, the six new bungalows at Kerdruelland, near Belz, in Morbihan, will never be built. Excellent, like we need anymore. Fix the ones that already exist! There is much archaeological evidence that the late Stone Age was also a stoned aged. That my friends is one of the best quotes in regards to the Neolithic I have ever seen. :pimp:
Pertinax
The purpose [of the stones] was "propitiation of the crop gods and sexual and alcoholic-psychedelic orgies" . So it wasnt all fun then?
WotWotius
Thank you for retrieving this article; I was going to read that article in the Independent from two days ago, but my Dad threw it away (grr). He ordered a bulldozer to shove the stone underground again before any passing busybody spotted it. He did not want the work on his six seaside bungalows to be halted for a prolonged archaeological dig. It seems like builders often hide uncovered historical artefacts in order to continue their building work. When builders in Leicester (constructing a 'cultural centre') uncovered two medieval skeletons, they were hidden until a passer-by noticed which subsequently instigated an archaeological dig. Antiochus of Seleucia
In Rome itself, a builder's worst fear is an archeological find because everything is halted. It wouldn't be that bad but there are innumerable finds everyday... I believe that it is a law to excavate every find.
