Viggen
Chinese archaeologists have discovered the remains of what may prove to be the country's first foreign worker -- an early European who labored on the mausoleum of China's first emperor. The discovery was made after DNA tests on human remains from one of the laborers' tombs surrounding the mausoleum of Qingshihuang, in northwestern Shaanxi Province, which was built more than 2,200 years ago. full article at Xinhuanet
Gaius Octavius
A while back on some TV program, it was claimed that the body of a 'princess' was discovered in eastern China. She had tartan like garments that were equated with Celtic garb, and red hair. The jewelry found with her was also claimed to be of a Celtic nature. It was concluded that she was Caucasian via some tests. I don't remember if she was deemed to be 2 or 5 thousand years old.
Pantagathus
Gaius, that would be the Beauty of Loulan She was tested as mtDNA Haplogroup 'H' (you may have to search for it in the link) and most of the male mummies were Y-chromosome Haplogroup R1a. It is my opinion that her discovery goes a long way to prove Herodotus was well enough informed in his geography of Asia beyond the Scythians. Interesting enough, I think she may come from the people known as the Cimmerians mentioned by Herodotus. Considering this mummy was a Bronze Age lady before the Cimmerians were pushed west by the Scythians, it may shed light on the controversial theory that the Cimmerians were the catalyst for the start of the traditional Halstatt Celtic cultures
Pertinax
Do I recall correctly that you yourself used one of these DNA kits (from this site)?
Pantagathus
Do I recall correctly that you yourself used one of these DNA kits (from this site)? It is still my plan to join the Geneographic Project but the $99 has so far found other uses for itself... By my birthday for sure because I'm dying to see if I'm R1b like I 'should' be or some complete curveball. Once I have less debt I plan on doing one of the $300+ test to get the full geneological range done
