Extensive Study Into Roman Town

A major archaeological project at the nationally-important Caistor Roman town in Norfolk is to be launched within the next few weeks. Researchers hope the origins and development of the settlement at Caistor St Edmund, just south of Norwich, will emerge for the first time during eight to 10 years of work. The town was once the regional centre of East Anglia and is one of only three Romano-British towns remaining undeveloped.

Is this not the site sometimes proposed as the Iceni tribal capital and "civitas" and thus perhaps the capital of Prasutagus and Boudicca?

Yes indeed this is the most likely location.

I note that the original grid street plan (laid out circa AD 70) was never actually "grown into " by the town as it developed, the suggestion being that this reflected the impoverishment of the Icenii after the failed revolt, ( and of course not helped by failing to plant crops during that event-possibly hoping that plunder would be had in the way of grain stores) .The first latge scale building episode was Antonine.Some commentaries suggest that Prasutagus might have been "rewarded" with this site as a "new capital" for his people because of his submission to Rome .

and at this rate Britain is set to become a Roman theme park given the reliance of the tourist industry on the Wall!
