Was wondering if anyone could help me please, I'm currently writing a funeral oration for Augustus from Tiberius but I am stuck on information for his public and personal life and quotes of Augustus.

I know in his personal life Augustus committed many acts of adultary while married to Livia, but I having trouble finding more infomation.

I'm looking for quotes like the below as i must include 10 in funeral oration. Quotes can be both postive and negative

Quotes of Caligula:

"Some swore they would fight as gladiators if the gods allowed him to recover; others even carried place cards volunterring to die instead of him" (Suetonius)

"I don't care if they hate me - as long as they fear me" (Suetonius)

Augustus:

"I found Rome a city of bricks and left it a city of marble"

Please any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm sure you've already perused some of this stuff, but I'll include it anyway just in case you've missed some.

Plutarch should provide some ideas in his various biographies (Antony's and Cicero's should be among the better sources... it's a shame he never continued his parallel lives into the principate era.)

Scroll down for list of biographies.

Deeds of the Divine Augustus might prove useful.

Suetonius: Augustus

Cassius Dio is excellent for quotes (as I said in the other thread, he can be rather long winded with speeches and such), but it is highly debatable whether anyone (other than Dio of course) ever actually said these things.

The Octavian information starts about book 45 and continues for several books.
