Who might be responsiible - the construction form not wanting to delay their dam? Fundamentalists not wanting to encourage tourism or against paganism? Simple "treasure-hunters"? Interesting article though. Discovery Channel often have documentaries about French digs - Alexandria is an example - so maybe we'll get something on this at some stage.
