If the fort was a small fortlet, say for an auxilia cohort or such, did the type of commander change? Would a Prefect be in charge? Ursus Posted April 2, 2006 Report Share Posted April 2, 2006 In the Later empire, the commanders of the defensive installations were given the title of praefectus, who served under the Dux of the province.
