Favonius Cornelius
In the halls of Sacramento, a special commission is rewriting Indian history: debating whether Aryan invaders conquered the subcontinent, whether Brahman priests had more rights than untouchables, and even whether ancient Indians ate beef. http://search.csmonitor.com/search_content...01s03-wosc.html Edited January 24, 2006 by Favonius Cornelius
Pertinax
Dare I mention the name Salman Rusdie! I suggest a perusal of "The Moors Last Sigh" if you wish to see a litlle way into Hindu nationalism and other political/social trends in the sub-continent, I dont say its a clinical study but its a good yarn with learned asides .And a lot about the Cochin spice trade .Rushdie is too much of a smarty pants for his own good but when he hits form he is an excellent storyteller. Its a light read that gives Westerners some approachable ideas to work with. Listening to Rusdie this last fall in the Vermont woods on a small radio was the first time I ever herd the F-bomb fly over the airwaves on NPR... As you say, when he is in form he is a riveting speaker. Very keen wit
