FLavius Valerius Constantinus
So who in mind here is the best writer or speaker in manipulating the style, form, text, et alia? I would say Cicero was a good speaker, but he tended to go astray and defame his enemies quite alot in his cases such as Clodia. As for writer? Hmm...haven't read all of them so can't really decide. Q Valerius Scerio
Defaming one's enemy was one of the highest forms of art in Roman rhetoric. Cicero definitely pulls his weight there. He's actually a little over the top for me. Tactius is a fine writer, if a bit terse, but does get his point across clearly. If I had to choose, it would be Vergil, the great poet of the ages. He's not my favorite Latin author, but no one seriously contends as a master of the language. Cicero would be second.
