Iron Age Hair Gel

Recommended Posts

Scientists at Dundee University have helped to recreate the face of a man dubbed the Iron Age David Beckham because of evidence he gelled his hair. Clonycavan Man, named after the area he was found, was one of two bodies discovered in a peat bog in the Republic of Ireland in 2003. The chemical composition of the peat mummified the body, enabling scientists to recreate his face.

Did you watch the documentary pertinax?

the guy with the hair gel was only 5'2" ,he had his hair bunched up on the top of his head to make him look taller. His wounds were all Axe blows to the head so he would of died pretty quickly. The other body was 6'6" and a noble man (his hands are beautifully preserved and he hasnt done a days manual labour in his life)the historians think he was executed for a honour crime as he was ritually tortured to death before he was staked down in the bog.

The historians viewpoint on bog body's was intersesting,he said the Celts would put people in the bog so that there body's wouldnt rot. They believed the soul is kept in side the body after death and this is a way of preserving the body so the soul cant escape, they didnt want the victims soul's to have the reward of the otherworld.I thought the bog bodys were offerings for the Gods not punishments for crimes.

Its been taped for me Longbow, im looking forward to watching it. Do they give a breakdown of chemical constituents for the gel? Id anticipated either malachite or woad in some sort of base emulsion (urine possibly).

Ill check it out in a few days time as im preparing for a trip to your neck of the woods-going to be chilly on the Wall at this time of year.
