I hope this is the right spot to ask this..I recieved an arrowhead as a present from someone who was told it was Roman aprox. 500AD..found in present day Rome..just wondering if anyone had any thoughts on it..does that time seem right? and do you think it is in fact Roman? Thanks very much for any help..if this is not the right spot for this or even the right forum! maybe someone could direct me to a forum that would be more appropriate? Thanks again I have enjoyed lurking here for the last few weeks..Steve

Well with any artifacts lacking a certificate of authenticity its hard to say for certain. If it was truely found in Rome then there is no reason to believe its not 'Roman' per se.

However, it is a bit more elaborate than many Roman and Byzantine arrow heads I've seen. Earlier Roman bronze arrowheads were kind of like a willow leaf shape and later they were more of an asymetrical diamond shape.

Problem is that they were often recycled & recast time & again over the ages for their bronze & iron so there is not much to really compair it too.

Thanks for you help! I will just go on the assumption that it is real..I was told it was not too expensive ($20) so its not of any real consequence if it's not real...I was just curious. Steve
