Humans Moved To Northern Europe Sooner Than Thought, Study Says

Humans left the Mediterranean for northern Europe about 200,000 years earlier than believed, according to a study of flint artifacts found in the U.K.

 

A temporary migration about 700,000 years ago trailed a shift to balmy weather north of the Alps, the data suggested. Scientists found 32 black flints in ancient riverbeds between Pakefield and Kessingland, England, a letter in today's Nature said.
