Viggen
The oldest map of anywhere in the western world, dating from about 500 BC, has been unearthed in southern Italy. Known as the Soleto Map, the depiction of Apulia, the heel of Italy's "boot", is on a piece of black-glazed terracotta vase about the size of a postage stamp. full article at the Telegraph
FLavius Valerius Constantinus
I seriously thought the map was paper. Stupid me.
Pantagathus
Too bad this 'oldest' map is equivalent to one of those State magnets you get in an airport gift shop...
Pertinax
Not much chance of using it to give your Legion a strategic advantadge-"I think the Samnites are up near the neck of the vase chaps, take a look round will you? And pour me another one while your holding that thing "

And pour me another one while your holding that thing " True enough, but if you grew up with these sorts of things around the house, you'd understand how to read a sheep-skin map once you were old enough to be a legionary--that would be a strategic advantage.
