FLavius Valerius Constantinus
I remember on the history channel (that gave me the idea)that he found what was it and said eureka( did he really ran naked down the streets). Did the Romans actually want him alive, what a tragedy that the Romans killed him.Who knows what else he could have achieved.
Viggen
I remember on the history channel (that gave me the idea)that he found what was it and said eureka The legend says he was running naked in the streets shouting Eurekea after he discovered the principles of density and buoyancy, (Archimedes' principle) while taking a bath... btw for more info on him, This is a great site about Archimedes.... cheers viggen

Pertinax
My (long ago) school version was that he was accustomed to draw diagrams in sand -writing materials being rather pricey-and upon asking a Roman soldier to stand aside (not tread on the paperwork) was stabbed. Stefan Kruithof
I always learned something rather similar to the above post. He was drawing geometric figures in the sand while the Romans invaded the city, when a Roman soldier then ran through his figures he actually said to the soldier "Don't disturb my circles" (or something), at which the soldier killed him. Onasander
Life must of been terrible for that soldier from that point on.
FLavius Valerius Constantinus
Yeah, must have sucked to know that you killed one of the world's greatest minds. It's like me in the modern equivalent killing Einstein long before he even died.
Ursus
I doubt the Romans showed any remorse to an enemy of the Republic just because he was a genius. Indeed, an enemy who happens to be a genius is dangerous.
