guy
A study of the DNA remains from Phoenician graves showed that most culturally Phoenician people “had no Levantine ancestry.” The results indicated that the Phoenicians were a mixture of Mediterranean populations, primarily from Sicily, Greece, the islands of the Aegean, and North Africa. The Carthaginians were originally a Phoenician colony in Tunisia that evolved into an independent empire. Quote Though ancestry from the Levant is almost completely missing in these later Phoenicians, Pilkington says the data support an explanation already put forth by some archaeologists: Whenever small groups of Phoenician settlers fanned out to found colonies across the Mediterranean, locals eagerly joined them and adopted their language, religion, and culture. From Carthage to Cadiz, archaeologists estimate that settlements founded by Phoenician settlers grew 10-fold, or more, within their first 200 years. Carthage—perhaps the best known Phoenician city and Rome’s most renowned rival—grew to a city of more than 40,000 from a hamlet that started with a few hundred people. https://www.science.org/content/article/most-phoenicians-did-not-come-land-canaan-challenging-biblical-assumptions Edited 4 hours ago by guy
