Salvete.

I found this site through Ursus, who I knew briefly while he was on Live Journal. (thanks for the link, by the way).

My interest is mostly limited to the Religio, but lately I've been noticing that I need to know more about the political history as much as I've been resisting learning it. my time with NR gave a bad taste for politician types, but I'm giving it another shot. I found a helpful DVD called Rome: Power and Glory, which gives a pretty good overview of things without getting too bogged down with plots and subplots--those I'll need to pick up later

Mostly I wanted to speak up here so that I can pop up elsewhere.

Ah. Welcome.

One of the site founders, Primus Pilus, is writing an ongoing summary of Roman political history. He has covered the early years to about Domitian, if you want to take a look: http://www.unrv.com/empire/roman-history.php

Aside from that there are dozens of primary sources on Roman history, which I myself am starting to tackle seriously.

As for Nova Roma, this site is simple education and comraderie and nothing like a self-proclaimed "micro-nation". It makes no claims to being a reborn Roman Empire. Just about everyone you meet here is a decent sort.

Indeed, that's an excellent summary of our purpose Ursus. UNRV is simply a friendly place (usually anyway) for people to gather and discuss our passion for Rome and the ancient world.

There are plenty of places to join recreation societies and those folks do an excellent job, we aim only to discuss history, society and culture.

Primus, do you have the history as one text file by chance?
