guy
We have previously posted about the legionary fortress of Novae in Bulgaria on the Danube limes (see below). Excavations are continuing with new finds. Quote Researchers from Poland and Bulgaria have been excavating the fortress for decades. Recent excavations have uncovered wooden and earth military barracks, a system of aqueducts, and an ancient Roman fridge. Quote The fortress was built on three wide terraces to accommodate the street layout and impressive structures, including a central command building, military hospital, and baths. Quote Novae was founded in the 1st century AD on the Lower Danube Limes (Moesian Limes) and served as a permanent base for the Legio I Italica in present-day Bulgaria. In addition to marking the frontier, Novae was a strategic base for campaigns against Barbarian tribes, including Trajan’s Dacian Wars and, later, Maurice’s Balkan campaigns. https://www.heritagedaily.com/2024/09/new-findings-at-roman-legionary-fortress/153446 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Novae_(fortress)#:~:text=Novae was initially one of,Moesia Inferior%2C later Moesia Secunda.&text=It lies about 4 km,now open to the public.
