While excavating a civilian settlement on the outskirts of a Roman military base in Bavaria, researchers found the remnants of a leather Roman shoe. The settlement dates between AD 60 and 135.

X-ray studies concluded that the shoe was a legionary soldier’s hobnailed sandal.
