Ursus
Wait till you get to "Caesarion" then! Unflinching sex and wit together. Indeed. Although I have to say their interpretation of Cleopatra, and the waif who plays her, leaves me a bit cold.

spittle
In the TV Series "Rome" Lucius Vorenus describes Mark Antony's performance as Tribune of Plebs with this paragraph: "He operates with a whore and a dwarf at his side. Even Cincinnatis or the Gracchi would not behave so..." Who was Cincinnatis???

Pertinax
L Q Cinncinatus lived c520 BC, served as Consul (once) and Dictator (twice), deemed to be a model of Roman virtue and dignity, returning to his farm after defeating the Volscians without retaining his dictatorial powers. As a strict Catonian I would have thought Vorenus would be an admirer of his.
WotWotius
Here. is a useful link. For some reason, the city of Cincinnati, Ohio has a statue in his honour. Does anybody know why?

I didn't know that there was any difference. BBC has more sex and less politics The truncated episodes being 1,2 , 11 and 12, each of these "pairs" being edited together as single episodes. I have just registered on this site although I have been reading it as a guest for some time. So I may need some help navigating at first. Could you tell me please is the whole series available on DVD? I missed many episodes due to work commitments. Skarr
Ursus, I had a simliar problem too, especially while writing my book, which is set in 120 BC. It was a real struggle to keep it "real" and I don't know if I succeeded or failed. Some liked it, others hated it. I guess you can't please everyone, that's something you learn quickly once you put your work up there to be judged.
spittle
According to the link above George Washington was regarded as a modern Cinncinatus. So if the naming of Cincinnati happened after the Revolutionary War maybe it was another way of honouring GW ??? Afterall with the capital city and a major state both named after Washington it would have been an alternative way to praise him. And the statue would fit the name. Just my guess. Primus Pilus
Like Pertinax, I too am puzzled as too why Cinicinnatus would be associated in such a way. Perhaps it was simply a way to bring a famous name into the script to the delight of Romanophiles (or chagrin). As for the city in Ohio... "In 1778 Losantiville was founded. This was later known as Cincinnati and received its name from General St. Clair, who, while in command of Ft. Washington, changed the name to Cincinnati in honor of the Society of Cincinnati, of which he was a member." WotWotius
The original US government system was, in a way, based on the Roman Republican system. Maybe the statue was a tribute to Rome's pre-Imperial government.
