guy
The following news report seems like bureaucratic spin. They will rebury a Roman villa recently unearthed in Scarborough. (See post below). There are plans, however, to create a “interpretive depiction,” instead. This sounds foolish to me. Quote The remains of the large "stately home" and bath house were found in Scarborough, North Yorkshire, in 2021. Developer Keepmoat Homes said the site had been reburied on the recommendation of Historic England. It said it planned to create an "interpretive depiction" of the ruins to inform future visitors. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-62406644 Edited August 4, 2022 by guy
caldrail
it's not unusual for archeology. In Britain finds like mosaics are often reburied partly because they're on productive farm land, partly because there's little chance of alternative protection, partly because no-one has the money to do anything else. Evidence and positions are painstakingly recorded and the field goes back into agriculture.
