guy
While searching for fossils on the beach near the Folkestone Roman Villa on the coast of Kent County, this fortunate hunter found this suspected Roman fibula without his usual metal detector (which is prohibited in the area). The wonderful video below documents his search. Quote "I sаw people wаlk right pаst it, not knowing whаt it wаs, probаbly thinking it wаs some scrаp metаl on the beаch, аnd they just kept wаlking” According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, the fibula was first used to fasten garments in Greek and Roman dress. Its popularity grew as a result of the Roman conquests, and it was used to create more complex brooches. https://www.cengnews.com/news/at-the-beach-a-treasure-hunter-discovers-2000-year-old-roman-jewelry-291564.html Edited March 1, 2022 by guy
