guy
Interesting find: Quote The discovery of a skeleton secured at the ankles with a locked set of iron fetters is thought to be evidence of slavery in Roman Britain, experts have said. It was found buried in a ditch in Great Casterton, Rutland, by builders working on a home extension. Archaeologists said it was the first uncovering of a burial wearing this form of restraint from that era. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-leicestershire-57387812 Edited October 11, 2021 by guy
guy
Another article on the find: Quote “The man, believed to be in his 20s or 30s, had his ankled locked with heavy iron manacles and was left in a ditch to die. His remains were found in Rutland, in the East Midlands, by builders who were constructing a house conservatory in Great Casterton. After the police were called, radiocarbon dating showed the bones had lain there since between AD226 and AD427 – when the country was under the rule of the Roman Empire.“ https://metro.co.uk/2021/06/08/shackled-skeleton-is-rare-evidence-of-slavery-in-roman-britain-14734393/?ito=newsnow-feed Edited October 11, 2021 by guy
