dnewhous
What were the banners of the legions? I think I saw them once on this site. Of particular interest are the 5th legion, the praetorian guard, and the emperor himself. I see what's on the wikipedia, and I wondered if everyone thought they were legit? I don't want to lead any witnesses. Edited August 3, 2018 by dnewhous
caldrail
The second one certainly isn't ancient in origin. How do I know? A spacially correct geographic map of the empire within the garland. A dead giveaway. You might try the Notitia Dignitatum, a late empire document, which I understand includes some legionary emblems.
Pompieus
The surviving manuscripts of the Notitia include shield patterns for units of the late Empire field armies. Luke's ancient military history website displays and discusses them. lukeuedasarson.com/NotitiaPatterns.html Edited September 2, 2018 by Pompieus
