dnewhous
What was the name of the Hellenic region in Italy? What dialect did they speak? Magna Graecia, according to the wikipedia is Achean, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magna_Graecia. But according to the Hellenic language tree, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hellenic_languages, the Greeks who mixed with Romans were Ionians. Pompieus
The Greek colonies in Southern Italy and Sicily came from various towns in Greece and probably spoke the dialects of their original home. Most colonies were from Doric/Achean speaking regions: Tarentum - Sparta, Syracuse - Corinth (Doric); Poseidonia, Sybaris, Locri & Croton - Achaea (Achaean Doric). Cumae - Euboea, Rhegium & Catania - Chalcis (Ionian). Edited January 14, 2017 by Pompieus
dnewhous
The converse question is really important, were there any Etruscan areas in Greece or Anatolia?
