indianasmith
I started the unit on Ancient Rome with my world history class. I ducked across the hall and changed into toga and sandals, waited for the tardy bell to ring, then strode straight into the room and delivered Mark Antony's funeral oration from Shakespeare's JULIUS CAESAR without a word of explanation to begin the new unit. They loved it!

caldrail
Interesting. My world history class back in the day started with events from 1850 in some detail, taught by an Oxford man who was quite a robust character. My teenage sensibilities couldn't handle it - my Ol level result was 'ungraded', but that was my fault. I like to think I've chosen a more interesting subject and made up for lost time since
indianasmith
No, Viggen, the girl on yearbook staff was supposed to come in, but she got called to another part of the campus. Maybe next year.
Maty
Where did you get the toga from? Did you really go the whole six meters? Was it a toga pura, or praetexta as was Mark Antony's? And did you have a tunic underneath, or did you go commando, a la Cato Uticensis? Inquiring minds wish to know ...
indianasmith
The toga is a fairly cheap costume I bought off of EBay a couple of years ago. An accurate version is way beyond my budget . . .
