I was wondering if the Roman citizens payed a tax?(the citizens in rome)

If they did any ideas how much percentage of there income it was?

....Didn't all citizens of Italy not have to pay taxes? Only the provinicial people???

Citizens of Rome during the early days of the Republic paid taxes. It was quite a low tax rate, nothing compared to taxes today! Ranging from 1% to 3%. By the late republic citizens were no longer charged taxes as Rome had gained a considerable amount of wealth through conquering, during this time only those who lived in provinces paid taxes. At first they were collected from individuals by tax farmers but it was then changed to direct taxation as the tax farmers appeared to constantly cheat people.

Roman citizens still had to pay some type of tax. In the early third century Caracalla made all freeborn male adults citizens ... his reasons for doing so to expand the tax base directed at citizens.

Practically everyone payed tax in some form...along with the army and the cesspool senate taxes were what made the world go round
