Viggen
...anyone seen this show? Seems like fun! Plebs: ‘Ancient Rome allows us to bring in gladiators and orgies’ It’s Horrible Histories meets The Inbetweeners – ITV2’s hit sitcom may be built on a bedrock of puerile humour, but you might learn something too... more at http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2014/sep/20/plebs-roman-comedy-tom-rosenthal
GhostOfClayton
Seen it - bought it - loved it. The 2nd series has just finished airing on ITV2, and to be honest it deserves a place on the UK's top 4 channels (I no longer include Channel 5). Don't expect historical accuracy. They clearly have advisors that know their stuff (I think Prof Mary Beard advised on the first series, if not the second as well) , but the writers don't let accuracy get in the way of a good comedy plot device. I enjoyed it so much, I bought both series on Apple iTunes so I could watch it back-to-back on transatlantic flights. I give it five dead gladiators (out of 5).
Onasander
Do all the Romans have bad English accents?
GhostOfClayton
No, but all 'young' English people do!
caldrail
I've seen both series. It is quite funny. Not exactly true to history - that's part of the joke - and not quite ROFL, but it does get very amusing at times. As I said, I've watched both series. Certainly filled my monday night. GhostOfClayton
btw. is there actually such a thing like a good English accent? Yeah - this lass has a proper accent. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxQ1KY8wL3o Caldrail may disagree (but he'd be wrong!)

DecimusCaesar
I have the first series on DVD. I need to catch up with the rest some other time. The series certainly has its moments - Grumio is pretty amusing.
GhostOfClayton
. . . and of course, our attention has been drawn to this when the first series started (http://www.unrv.com/forum/topic/11550-coming-up-next/?p=124523).
