longbow
A new virus has just been discovered that has been classified by >Microsoft as the most destructive ever. This virus was discovered >yesterday afternoon by McAfee and no vaccine has yet been developed. >This virus simply destroys Sector Zero from the hard disk, where vital >information for its functioning are stored. > >This virus acts in the following manner: >It sends itself automatically to all contacts on your list with the title: >"A Card for You". > >As soon as the supposed virtual card is opened the computer freezes so >that the user has to reboot. When the ctrl+alt+del keys or the reset >button are pressed, the virus destroys Sector Zero, thus permanently >destroying the hard disk. Yesterday in just a few hours this virus >caused panic in New York, according to news broadcast by CNN. > >This alert was received by an employee of Microsoft itself. >So don't open any mails with subject: "A Virtual Card for You. "As >soon as you get the mail, delete it!! Even if you know the sender !!! sounds nasty,i had to buy a new hard drive last month! hope this bugger doesnt get me. longbow
http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp...n&virus_k=98893 Checked the website and it appears to be a hoax. Why do people do this??
Primus Pilus
Same reasons they make the actual viruses I guess. Just to get their rocks off.

Ursus
I'm guessing a lot of these guys were marginalized in high school for their intellectual hobbies. Using those intellectual hobbies (like computers and software) to cause mischief is probably their way of getting back at the word, achieving a sense of power, etc.
P.Clodius
It never fails to amuse me how people open attachments sent to their POP mail from people they don't know. I don't even look at email from people I don't know let alone look at their attachments. Basic security guys, rely on your own common sense rather than a piece of software you don't know anything about let alone how it works!! Maximus
This is in reference to the IRA a terrorist group in Ireland. They are supposedly fighting for the freedom from British rule.
