pompeius magnus
These are only a few of the many, obviously the roads were not rome's invention but they vastly improved them, same as the roman law, but their laws of the 12 tablets, from Greek law, and the eventual Theodoscian Code as well as Justinian, still roman at that time, Corpus Civis Legis which was the basis of law until Napoleon modified it. Primus Pilus
I had to say the roads.. without them the others wouldn't have spread throughout the western world.
skel
roads were important, but sewage imo helped not only health issues but possibly moral of people too. i know id be happier with clean roads and not poo covered ones after all, if everyone was sick from disease coming from open sewage... how could they build roads? Ursus
I would have to say the roads. My state government, with all its modern technology, can't make a road half so fine as the Romans.
P.Clodius
I would say roads too as innovation. But for legacy I would have to say law and government. Their widespread use of concrete might be another innovation to consider.
Ursus
I would have picked law and government too, if I had lived in continental Europe. But living in the Anglosphere with its Anglo-Saxon common law traditions, I've never experienced Roman legal codes first hand. Their widespread use of concrete might be another innovation to consider Excellent point.
Zeke
I would have to say the laws, they are foundations for Republican Goverment
Lacertus
I risk to choose roads, but the Roman laws are actual too.
pompeius magnus
I am surprised that more people have not said sewage system. After all it had a huge impact with assisting to keep plague risk down and its aqueducts can still be seen in France and many roman pipes are still used today in Rome. PerfectimusPrime
I say the Roman law, most of the western law systems are based upon it...

PerfectimusPrime
Without concrete they wouldnt have been able to build the Pantheon,it even set underwater! How about Ball Bearings? useful things ball bearings.Lol Some say that the Roman concrete was acuattly better than the modern concrete. Like the chinese bricks (used in the great wall of china) are better than many modern bricks.
MARCELLVS
I 'd say the Roman Republic was the first really working political system, and it has, at least basically, been adopted all over the world.
