Melvadius Posted September 20, 2011 Report Share Posted September 20, 2011 Past Horizons is carrying this interesting report on the excavation of a 'Pictish' Broch in Lowland Scotland which is providing a suprising amount of evidence for Romano-Pictish trade. It is the first of its type dioscovered in Lowland Scotlands in over 100 years. Brochs are more commonly found in the far north of Scotland although there are a few in Lowland Scotland and those previously known were excavated by Antiquarians so are not the best sources of evidence for this type of trade. A team from the Strathearn Environs and Royal Forteviot (SERF) project have uncovered near the village of Dunning an exquisitely preserved Iron Age broch filled with evidence of early contact between the Picts and the Roman Empire. The massively fortified dwelling, the preferred residence of the elite during Roman times, is the first of its kind to be discovered in the Scottish Lowlands in around 100 years.
