Melvadius
The BBC is carrying a video as part of their report on a recent discovery of a Medieval Mural depicting Henry VIII. Apparently the building carries a Grade II listing which although not preserving it in aspic does mean that they need to obtain their local planning officers permission for any work which may affect what makes the particular building of historical interest. The work the couple were doing when they made the discovery was the removal of wooden panels from the wall with a view to painting it. Whatever the previous listing the owners may find their home has now moved up a notch or two in importance as the only other known Medieval mural of Henry VIII was apparently destroyed by fire in the 16th Century. A couple doing DIY have uncovered a 20ft (6m) high medieval mural of King Henry VIII on the wall of their home. The house in Milverton, Somerset, was once home to Thomas Cranmer, Arch Deacon of Taunton in the 16th Century. Angie Powell said: "When we saw the eyes appear out of the plaster it was a real moment." Michael Liversidge, of Bristol University, said the discovery was "enormously significant, stunningly exciting and of national importance". But the artist who created the painting of the King on his throne in about 1530 is a mystery.
Crispina
That's incredible. Can you believe how excited those people must have been to discover the mural? Makes you wonder about all the other treasures that are out there beneath Grandma's wallpaper.
