Favonius Cornelius Posted January 6, 2006 Report Share Posted January 6, 2006 I've heard the theory that the Coliseum was built purely from the riches taken from Jerusalem when it was sacked by Vespasian and Titus. From the point of view of asset to the empire, it was just one of those vital links on the fringes that had to be controlled, rather than some great economic asset. Most of it is desert or badland.
