Virgil61
Ronnie James Dio dies at 67 from stomach cancer. RIP Dio. Baltimore Sun Link Ronnie James Dio, whose soaring vocals, poetic lyrics and mythic tales of a never-ending struggle between good and evil broke new ground in heavy metal, died Sunday, according to a statement from his wife and manager. He was 67. Dio revealed last summer that he was suffering from stomach cancer shortly after wrapping up a tour in Atlantic City, N.J. with the latest incarnation of Black Sabbath, under the name Heaven And Hell. Kosmo
I expected to see him with Heaven and Hell at Sonisphere Bucharest but they canceled their presence. Now I know why. RIP Dio. On another note, last night I got to see some other old guys - AC/DC - and they made an amazing show.
Primus Pilus
Was never a big Dio fan, but I always appreciated his pioneering contribution to metal. Even in his mid-60's he was still out there recording and performing.
dnewhous
His 3 best albums IMO were Rainbow Rising, Heaven and Hell, and Magica. With the exception of the song "Rainbow in the Dark," which still wasn't the equal of his best material with the previous two bands, I am not the biggest fan of his early "solo" material. I like Rainbow better than Deep Purple, but I think Ian Gillan was a better singer for Ritchie than Dio, but not for Tony. I think Magica is the true standout of the "Dio" labeled material. It's nice that he got to end his career with his version of Black Sabbath, which is where I always thought he belonged.
