Who was King Porus?

Everyone has heard of King Porus who was defeated by Alexander, but most of our information comes from western sources.

Are there any eastern (Indian) sources that tell a different side of the story? I found some scattered info on the internet, but I wasn't sure of the reliability.

Are there any good books devoted to Alexander's Indian expedition?

As far as I know there are no Indian sources for Alexander's expedition. The most important Indian states of that time were located further east on the valley of the Ganges River and were not impacted by the Macedonian conquest.

I believe his actual name was Paurava. There is a Paurava dynasty mentioned also in the famous epic the Mahabharata. One thing that has never been clear to me is if this particular king ruled the entire Indo-Gangetic plain or if he was just one of the local rulers there.
