barca
I am interested in comparing the strategies of the Macedonian and Byzantine combined arms forces. It seems to me that the main difference was more offensive (Alexander) vs defensive (Belisarius). I picked Alexander as the best example of the Macedonian system. There is a general assumption that later Hellenistic armies had lost the flexibility of Alexander's system. I picked Belisarius as one of many great Byzantine generals, but feel free to use other Byzantne leaders as examples.
Legio X
I dont know very much about the byzantine armies, but i think they would have won, bacause their flexibility, strong cavalry, and strong mix of roman, greek and eastern influensed troops. The macedonians had great cavalry to in the companions, but they were used to fight light armed and less organized enemies like the persians. Kosmo
Alexander's army was based on heavy infantry and shock cavalry in compact formations while the "Byzantines" used mostly heavy armored missile cavalry in a loose line.
