You know this community is amazing, the latest giveaway Ancient Warfare Magazine Special has already over 200 entries, (so drop quickly a line that you are interested if you haven`t yet), the amazing thing though is how many people are actually dropping a little line, "how they like the site, how they appreciate the community, how they look forward to all the freebies, the book reviews etc... but most of all, that many want to give back, they tell me almost apologetic that they dont have the capacity or the knowledge to write articles or the skills to write a review but would still like to help the site. Very often, they mention that they would like to donate a few dollars to keep the site running. (btw. i reply to each and everyone in person) Well, there it is, the Admins are thirsty page ...the cool thing about it is, that in the last 7 years we have been giving back almost all of the revenue that the ads bring in, in form of giveaways, review books etc., so if we get a beer, be assured that the community will get a big sip of it, as Seneca wisely stated "We should give as we would receive, cheerfully, quickly, and without hesitation; for there is no grace in a benefit that sticks to the fingers." ...and now cheers!

The news is now out on the forum and via our newsletter (you should get it during the course of the day), we are officially Tweeting now, if you never heard of Twitter and wonder what the heck is this all about, go to http://tweeternet.com/, its basically a micro-blogging service that allows people to type in short messages or status updates that can be read by people following them. An individual message or status update is often referred to as a 'tweet'. If you go to http://twitter.com/UNRV you can see, first of all what we have written (always limited to max. 140 characters), also you see on the right hand site, Followers and Following. Followers are people that are following what we have to say, Following are the people that we (UNRV) are following and therefor receiving their messages. I found two authors via Twitter already (Adrian Murdoch and Caroline Lawrence are our followers and we follow them) ...in anycase if you have already an Account follow us, you might get a free map even... (read newsletter or forum and you know how) Happy Tweeting...

During my current adventure to become filthy rich, i read lots of books on how to become just that. Those are financial books, self help books, books to get things done, books on making your life filled with purpose, and almost in all of them is at least one quote of Marcus Aurelius... ...for example; Because a thing seems difficult for you, do not think it impossible for anyone to accomplish. Begin - to begin is half the work, let half still remain; again begin this, and thou wilt have finished. Do every act of your life as if it were your last. Each day provides its own gifts. Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth. He who lives in harmony with himself lives in harmony with the universe. It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live. Loss is nothing else but change, and change is Nature's delight. The only wealth which you will keep forever is the wealth you have given away. Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one. You have power over your mind - not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength. ...and i could go on for a long time... For me, the most important piece of wisdom from Marcus Aurelius is however; Our life is what our thoughts make it.

The good news, actually the unbelievable news is, we just had our one millionth visitor to the site for 2007!!! The not so good news is, our tiny little shared server (with about 40 other domains) that is made for mum and pops site is aching and breaking, sooner or later we have to make a decision to probably upgrade to a dedicated server, which means a server that runs just our site, the even worse news is, that such a dedicated server is only available from 160 dollar a month or more... We tweaked in the last couple of weeks the coding, images and such to get the pressure a bit off the server but as it seems just more and more people visiting the site, (which is cool of course) but making the server issue an even hotter topic for us right now... In case you are interested what a dedicated server means, it means we would be the owner of a whole little computer with cpu/memory and harddisk just for us, which means it is scalable (simply add memory if you run out of it, or add a new cpu etc...), it means you have all the resources for your site, which means of course a faster site, to make things short, sooner or later this "empire" called unrv.com will go to the next level...

Phew, now when we (PP, Moon and I) started in 2003 with Unrv.com we couldnt imagine how this all would turn out, all we wanted was a simple site with some basic info for a online role play game that theme was the Roman Empire... The growth of articles and members and contributers is growing in a pace thats just incredible, to give you some examples... Google has 58.000 pages indexed, now thats massive looking back starting with about 20 a few years back... 2007 till yesterday Unrv.com had almost 3.000.000 pageviews and almost a million unique visitors I (not sure how many PP gets but assume plenty to afraid to ask ) get about 20 to 50 emails a day concerning Unrv.com We get contacted by bestselling authors, top universities and Professors from all over the world, and all that i have to manage in a few hours in the morning. So please excuse me if my replies are sometimes slow, or a review isn`t published right away, the newsletter is not as often, or you dont see me around as much as you think i should... We have hundreds of ideas how to make Unrv.com even better or more interesting, however we all have a day-job, so implementing new stuff takes unfortunatly more time then we want... ...sometimes i wonder if i should just ignore all the monthly bills that i have, quit my job and work full time on Unrv.com... ...anyway thanks to all the contributers that makes this place special...

We recently upgraded our newsletter script so we can send now in HTML. This is nothing radical and we wont, as far as i can see, do anything else with it other then insert links, but nevertheless a nice new touch i believe. We "tested" this new functionallity today on our newest promotion we just sent out, so check your mail [if you have subscribed] (or the front page or the Trajan Forum) for more details...

Now that we have our first subforum, i would like to know what other topics could we make into a subfora? Keep in mind that it should be related to the parent forum and of course the main forum should be busy enough to support a split into a more specific niche... cheers viggen

There was always a way to use an integrated spell checker on the forum, however it was only available if you use the rich text editor, and this one had some serious bugs, so i never mentioned it... With the latest upgrade of our forum software (2.1.4), most of those issues have been fixed, so i am happy to explain it how it works... First, this only works with Internet Explorer... You need to install the spell checker software here ---> http://www.iespell.com/download.php then go back to the forum, go to My Controls, there you go to Board Settings, change "Type of text editor to use when posting" to "Rich Text Editor" then save it... Now you have when you post a new icon on the top bar (says ABC), once you are finished typing your post just click on it and it will spell check the text for you.... cheers viggen p.s. ok the spell checker is not perfect though (it tries to replace viggen to virgin )

I am not sure if all people know what a rss feed and a feedread is, so i will explain it a bit first... more information here ---> What is RSS Now that you know what rss is, and that the Unrv.com Blog has a RSS Feed, you need a RSS Reader to get that info without actually having to go to the site. For example i use Firefox (you should too) and there is a simple Rss Reader extension called Wizz RSS News Reader, just install that and then you get a nice RSS Agregator Toolbar, where you can add categories and Channels. For example, you create a category called UNRV then you create within the category UNRV a channel you give it the name Blogs and add underneath the rss fead of the UNRV.com blogs http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?automo...g&cmd=syndicate Now what happens is when you switch on your computer and you click on the RSS feader and then click on channels you will see immediately if there are new entries in the blog, just click then on the new entry sentence and you are brought to the actual blog, well it is easy and every one should use it, saves time keeps you up to date and oh btw our main site has a RSS Feed too cheers viggen p.s. if this is all confusing, let me know and i am happy to answer all questions...

Hi everyone, I just got back from my training session in Styria and was browsing the blogs... I saw that no one is using the personalization feature yet, maybe no one cares, or maybe no one knows! If you like to add/personalize your content block do the following... 1. Go to your Blog 2. Under "Your Blog Options" click on "Your Content Blocks Settings" 3. Click on "Add a custom content block" 4. At "Block Name" give it a name (like "my favourite music, or sites/blogs i visit regulary) 5. Enter your Post (Links or Music Bands etc..) 6. Enter "Submit Custom Content Block" 7. Repeat step 2. 8. Under "Current Conten Blocks" the just created Content Block should be now visible and all you need to do is tick it on under "Show Block" If you visit your Blog now, the newly created Block (Favourite Blogs/Music or whatever you created) should now be visible... Hope that helps cheers viggen
