Sectarian Violence/civil War In Iraq?
LEG X EQ replied to FLavius Valerius Constantinus's topic in Hora Postilla Thermae
You mean West-Germany, East-Germany was Communist Soviet Terretory, till it became a German-Communist state that existed from 1949-1990. -
Yes, but only in "rank" and in power. Lets not forget that Yahweh is the sole creator , the sole ruler and is practicaly invisible For the Jews. While Jupiter, Thor and Zeus. Were not the sole creator nor the sole ruler. And Jupiter and zeus etc. where always portrait as larger humans. Furthermore the Philosophy that Yahweh he is based upon and his 12 commandments are the complete opposite to Paganism. When a Roman fisher was out at sea and a storm brewed up, he prayed to Neptune, the god of water, and this was completely legitimate. while the jewish fisher would have prayed to his only god. Jupiter was the leader of the Pantheon like Zeus was the leader of the Olymp, but they were not devine. They are all just equal in terms that they are ranked the No.1 of their faiths. The whole relationship between jews and Romans is all well documented and recorded. Non of it is a big mystery or secret. 1. For the Romans, the jews were not seen as one tribe or one ethnicity but as the one people that represent their religion and worship Yahweh. A Numidian jew was the same as a jew in Judea, for the romans. For whatever reason the Romans thought that all jews were not suited to be Roman citizens. A jew was not a roman citizen and therefor had not the roman rights. Those jews that lived in the empire outside of judea, were segregated into a ghetto, with limited rights. They were only allowed to leave the Ghetto at certain times of the day. Until in the 3rd.C.AD when jews were granted the citizenship. 2. They only tolerated the jweish religion and its practise as long as the jews remaind peaceful towards the Romans. Once a rebellion or another conflict arose, than the Romans were ruthless and merciless towards the jews and their religion. The entire temple of jerusalem was destroyed and plundered. those who remaind within the temple were butchered by the Romans. All of those jewish villages that were destroyed by the romans, surely contained a holy site for the jews, that was destroyed relantlesly along with the village. 3.The Romans themselveshad their own gods and didnt worship, honour or respected yahweh. They just tolerated the jews that practised that religion and worshiped him. But only while they remained peaceful, once the jews rebbelled, nothing was tolerated or respected(destruction of the temple in jerusalem).

Yes, those were greeks. There was even the branch of Hellenic Judaism. Personally, i think the Romans didnt care much about Yahweh. There was even a Roman author who stated that Judaism was a strange religion. As for the Jews, they werent granted citizenship till the 3rd. Centuary AD. So Romans could tell Jews appart from others. Further more, Romans and Jews went against eachother quite often, which resulted in the Massacres of entire jewish villages or periods were the first born of every jew got killed. Romans had their Pantheon their pagan believes and their pagan cults. They never worshiped Yahweh and the entire philosophy that he is based upon. But were tolarant to those who believed in it.

Single Biggest Contributor To Rome's Collapse
LEG X EQ replied to tflex's topic in Imperium Romanorum
No, the province of Italica at that time was still pretty much the same Cultuarly and Ethnicaly than a millenium ago. Yes, The Romans made millions of slaves. But only a small fraction of them were shiped to Italica. Mostly as Houshold slaves or Gladiators. But slaves had no rights, so they were not allowed to marry and the majority died alone. Only as small percentage was granted freedom and an even smaller one remaind in italica. The majority of slaves were brought to north africa or iberia were all the mining was, or to Gallia and germania inferior where Towns roads and bridges needed to be build. The Slaves were important for the empire but not for the Province of Italica. But slaves had no rights in every part of the empire and so the majority died without spreading their seeds. The Foederati families lived in segregation in the countryside. It was not until 476 AD and Odoaker and his army of germanic foederati soldiers that mixed with the local Roman population. During East-Gothic rule the reamainders of Odoakers army were considered as part of the Roman locals, with the same rights. So the entire remains of Odoakers army mixed with the locals. The Slaughtering of the families of the Gothic soldiers, was an act of insanity. were authorities in the west got paranoid. They also murdered Stilicho and numerous other Generals in the Roman service. And basically crippled themselves, with that act of insanity. -

East Rome turned Greek and became Byzantium. The Byzantines (in my opinion) didnt really care about Rome and the west anymore. They should have let Odoaker stay as the Rex Italiae and not relocate the gothic problem from the Balkans to italy. Theoderic rebuild the west and made it powerful again. But than it became to powerful and to gothic for Byzantium. And thats what i am saying is the fatal part for Byzantium. When the west was weak they installed one Barbaric Leader after the other, but once it got powerful again they wanted to control it. They should have never let Italy become Gothic in the first place, they shouldnt have been such cowards and instead of relocating the problem they should have dealt with it straight away. Dont get me wrong, Theoderic and the Goths were a blessing for Italy, but than Byzantium should have accepted that Italy was Gothic and not try to regain it from the goths. All of these criminal policies of removing Odoaker and the little games they played with the Goths and their idiotic pact with the Lombards, sealed the total collapse of Rome. Because with Odoaker, The west could have been the great Roman West, it once was. -

@Neos Dionysos You are mixing things up now, you are talking about two different things. The Murder of Stilicho and the slaughter of the Gothic families and story of the 30.000 goths. Is something completely different than what i was reffering to. 1. Yes, Italics are the people that originate from the Province of Italica, these people are outcome of the mixture of Rasenna (etruscans), Italic and North Adriatic Veneti tribes. These people formed the early republic and the early empires army. 2. The goths you are reffering to that lived within the province of Italica, are the families of the Foederati Goths, that were more or less stationed outside of Italica. 3. No these goths are not considered Italic. 4. What thousands of Germanic people served under Stilicho at Pollentia and Verona??? This army of pollentia was composed of Soldiers from modern day Milan Piacenza Turin Asti. Sources are the Communale libraries of Milan and Piacenza and the Cathedral archive of Arezzo. 5. I was specifically reffering to these two battles. Yes, i agree. But i disagree with your claim that the East was hurt and damaged. It was exactly than, were the east had to step in and help and restore the west. But they were simply incopetant to do so. They than finally installed Odoaker, and than back stabbed him with Theoderic. Adding more problems, that the west had to pay for, by turning it into the battle field of the Gothic wars. -

Disagree, there were still plenty of Italics in the army, but all were in Italica, The Army of stilicho against the Visigoths was entirly italic, the Army of Aurelianus against the Alemannics was entirly italic. Records and documents are being hold in the Communale Library of Milan and Piacenza and in the Cathedral Archive of Arezzo. Further More The Germanic mercenaries were also very discaplined, and were not known as troublemakers. @ Neos dionysos Yes, i know all about these events, and you have only written the correct historic events. That i am informed about. But whats your opninion? I mean all these historic facts prove that Constantinople was responsable for the collapse because they weakend the west all by themselves, and in the end lost it to the Lombards because of their pact with them. And with that they lost the total control of the west. Because the great Lombard king Alboin was smart enough not to go into agreement with the sneaky byzantines. And the Lombards were a blessing to the North of italy. -

I wonder why Constantinople is not an option? In my opinion they are responsable for the collapse. It was them who installed people like Odoaker and Theoderic in the west and went into a pact with the Lombards to help them defeat the East-Goths (ostrogoths) and to be rewarded with land in northern italy. The split of west and east was the beginning of the end. And the east being to powerful but to incompetant. -
Funny, i always thought it derived from the Latin termAVERE and Avere meant safe journey and turned into a salute later on. can you tell me the phoenician word it derives from?

Fecal Matter Is On It's Way To The Fan...
LEG X EQ replied to Pantagathus's topic in Hora Postilla Thermae
@Sextus Roscius There was a documentary on this subject about a year ago, where Historians came up with an answer to that question. Europeans as far back as the Greeks, considered Jews, strange. Due to their religion. The Romans didnt grant them Citizenship until the 3rd centuary AD. The jews recieved further bad reputation in europe during the Arab and Moore (muslim invasion) of europe (spain-portugal-south of france-siciliy-greece etc.). The jews were (and that is historicaly proven) the Financiers of the Arabs. So the European christians saw the jews as the cause for the wars. Further more the Church in europe spread the word that the jews killed jesus. Of course, the Romans carried out the execution, but the bible tells us and the church preeched that the jews persecuted and judged upon him. All this, plus the so called jewish phenomena,(which is described by Anna Lierson in various books). The phenomena, is that when a city in europe turned prosperous, that the jewish community had risen and when the city declined, than also the jewish community declined. Anna Lierson describes a city in modern day Lithuania (or latvia not so sure) in the 12th C Ad. that prospered because of the baltic trade. At its hight, the jewich community was 4 times as much as before, and when it declined and eventually ran poor, the jewish community was 0. Leaving the original population behind in poverty. All these things is what gave jews in europe, the image of a negative. And all escalated in WWII. Back in those days segregation was immense. If you belonged to a minority, than there was no chance of assimilation to the majority. -
Mexico Pressuring Austria For Aztec Headdress
LEG X EQ replied to Viggen's topic in Archaeological News: The World
If i understood your statement correctly, than you are asking why does the country of Austria have Mexican pieces. Austria ruled over mexico for a short period. I believe (not very sure) it was kaiser maximilian. So maybe the Austrians have this piece from that period. -
Monasticism And Roman Religion
LEG X EQ replied to M. Porcius Cato's topic in Templum Romae - Temple of Rome
I doubt it, in terms of Rome and europe. Monasteries exist so a bunch of people can devote their lifes to a certain lifstyle. The lifestyle of Christ, the lifestyle of Buddha etc.. They recite the Holy Books and stories and try to do as much charity as possible and inspire other people with their lifestyles. So i doubt that there was a monasterie in Italy or Greece, were Greeks or Romans lifed trying to life like Zeus or Jupiter. Except for the Soldiers who wanted to please and to be as brave as Mars or Mithras, i dont know of any other walk of people to have persude living certain lifstyles. If i am not mistaking, than the first Christian monasterie, was in Damascus syria. -

Monasticism And Roman Religion
LEG X EQ replied to M. Porcius Cato's topic in Templum Romae - Temple of Rome
It was the German Emperor Friedrich II. From your post i take it that you take the side of the church, but than you shouldnt ask or wonder about the educational standard. Because it was the church who kept education from the masses. Yes, but for themselves. Ora et Labora was a monk way to live and not a common citizen one. Im christian myself, but what the church did in the post roman era, was a disgrace. -
Well, Caesar must have done something right. After all, his legacy is the greatest. His name Caesar became a term for Power and Glory, that following leaders were awarded with his name as a title. And that far beyond Rome and italy, long after the roman empire, the russian Zsar and german Kaiser both derive from Caesar. Till modern times (present day) people reffer to caesar as "THE ROMAN", And the folks in Las Vegas didnt name their roman style casino after Scipio or Augustus, they named it after Julius Caesar. Pretty sure its a refference to Julius Caesar, because they have this person run around claiming to be Julius Caesar.

The name JUPITER comes from the original name Diespiter or Diovis Pater (both were used) meaning, Heavenly Father or The Father of the Sky. Diovis was later pronounced Jovis Pater. The name Diovis derives from the Indo-European languge and Deity--- Dyeuz. The term Jove is modernised english term. The latin words were Luppiter or Jupiter. Diovis Pater--Jovis Pater--Jupiter -
Thats all i wanted to read, thanks for making my point. The word of that beverage is secondary, it depends what sources you relie on. The Lusitanians had a different word for that beverage. So did the carthagians and egyptians. And as you pointed out, so did the greeks. But the romans didnt use that word, so why would they use a barbarian word ? that also matches a word that can be traced from one of their gods?
-
What are we debating anyways. Neither the Iberians nor the Romans had this beverage first. They all had it from north africans, and they had it from Messopotamians. Where the names came from is secondary, the romans had the name from their Goddess CERES! whats the problem?? I didnt include sources for the several reasons: 1. There are to many 2. I was appealing to your logic, it makes perfect sense, to call a beverage such as beer after a goddess of fertillity. that also sounds very similar to the later named beverage 3.That the greeks had brewed beer in magna grecia and that the Italics also knew how to brew beer, from the greeks. is proven.
-
Its a long way from Zuthos to cerea, and agian, your source is missing time frames. thats the whole point i am trying to make, that the romans brewed beer before having contact with the iberians, and called that beverage CERVISIA after their goddess CERES. And that the term Cervisia was romanized in iberia later on. The Egyptians had beer long before the iberians, so did the greeks. I ask you again, what is your point, and what are the facts to back it up! Except for making jokes about my apperent sources you havent stated any facts of your own.
-
YES; BECAUSE THERE WERE SO MANY BARBARIANS WITH GODS NAMED CERES AND OH SO HAPPENED TO BE GODS OF FERTILLITY!! YEAH RIGHT! Its a long way from Zuthos to cerea, and agian, your source is missing time frames. come on, forget about it. read my last post and let it be.
-
Ok, forget it. I made my points and they are correct, and if you personaly disagree, than state some facts! I really dont want to tell you about MET and that the germans didnt grow certain ingrediens that early. I dont care about the iberian culture. Its that simple. And i never wrote from the iberian view. so all i wrote about, are things i researched.(but repeat your jokes, because you know!)
-
CONSIDERING THE LINGUISTIC INFLUENCE!!!!!! YES!! In case you havent noticed, spanish is a romance language, meaning it came from LATIN!! Your source has one problem, and thats, that it doesnt state any dates and time periods! The Romans conquered that terretory and Romanised it, and this beverage was also known in Italica.
-
I dont know where you are aiming with that info, or what you want to achieve with it. but yes, i know what autochthonous means, and thats what i said. They werent in all of Northern Italy. Hardly covered half of it. Your post, pantagathus. My statement.
-
@pantagathus inform me about what? i guess thats the problem, i dont know what you want from me. we can end the discussion right here, because beer was not a big part of roman culture. Wine was their main alcoholic beverage. Vino. But it was roman soldiers who brought beer (named after their goddess Ceres) to Germany. Germanics only had MET. thats all i said. you came talking about iberians and zuthos and other info i couldnt care less about.

Doubt it, to small. Its more of a regional thing. Warsteiner is a huge Company. We are very regional, our biggest rival is Distelh
