  1. This is good news, some "late era" information would be very useful.
  2. So once again we revert to the use of honey as a wound dressing: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/afp/20070504/thl-...ce-96993ab.html as illustrated here: http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?automo...=si&img=916 nothing new under the sun
  3. Pertinax

    Gladiator

There is also some cunningly slowed down and re-hashed Orff in there as well, plus a recapitualtion of elemnets from the soundtrack of Das Boot.
  4. Ok since you force me , I libate copiously in honour of the shape-changer, who can say where man finishes and the spirit of the woods starts?.
  5. Bad case of loving you! Doctor Doctor! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LjSjmw_7uIE congratulations!

    Chill with a Pertimaxus!
  7. 28th GO old bean, any emissaries will be entertained by endless tea and crumpets.
  8. Have no fear about the dates in September, they are decided. Scroll back on the "new thread" http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?showto...amp;#entry63096
  9. I havent mentioned the "Gastronomica" pamphlet that Andrew Dalby distributed at the meet.It is his take on the "Satyrica" , and a witty and polished piece it is to.I wonder if he is reading this that he might have a link to the text?
  10. AS you can see quite a few Britons think Hadrian's Wall is in China: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...in_page_id=1770
  11. Rational and sensible, im certainly happy to contribute.
  12. Thank you for the excellent report Woderick, im sorry I mean Augustus.
  13. Now we have the report of AC , including the much publicised "Life of Brian " incident... Upon arrival at this historic English City my good lady wife, Flavia, and I knew the weather would be good all weekend. We could just feel it in our bones. We took a slow walk to our B&B along the river Ouse then made our way back to the centre of the City to stroll about for a while before meeting the rest of the group bar one later on. It is quite amazing really just what can be found just strolling along and not really taking any notice of the shops and hustle and bustle going on all round us. We found plaques on walls where you would least expect them detailing the whereabouts of the gates to the Roman fort and where certain roads ran through or alongside the fort walls. One that caught our eye was that next to the Treasurer
  14. As AC has said we cannot rely on the now butchered AD 122 bus service, so it has to be car and foot for getting about. I will start to pm UK members if they dont appear to have seen the thread. As regards Sally Grainger as a potential invitee what do Forum members think to suggesting the "Annual" meet as the best platform for such a guest?
  15. Good, we have the basis for a new meet. http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?automo...si&img=1433 http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?automo...=si&img=729
  16. After various consultations we are moving toward the suggestion mentioned above: 28th to 30th September on the "scenic" central section of the Wall .We will have the opportunity to take in a re-enactment by Late Period Re enactors , and to devise "wet" and "sunny" alternative itineraries . The possible major visited locations are Corstopitum, Vircovicivm and Vindolanda , also Procolitta, Aesica and Banna. Thats quite a selection of sites and museums. If possible I would hope to make direct contact with Comitatus so we can have some time especially devoted to Late Period arms/technology.This is just to get the dates into some sort of focus.More to follow.AC will have plenty to say im sure . I thinkwe will be looking to have a considerable focus on the "built environment" at this meeting.
  17. Up Pompeii is here in all its glorious vulgarity! http://www.tv-links.co.uk/show.do/1/724
  18. Ive mentioned this a while ago , Cruse (Roman Medicine) is keen to emphasise that dental finds in Britain show Roman era teeth to be well worn , but significantly less carious than modern dentition. The logical suggestion is tough endospermatic grains and no sugars in the diet. http://www.unrv.com/forum/index.php?automo...=si&img=923 some of you will recall this chap from previous threads!
  19. Personally I would be keen on the suggested September meet on the Wall , and am happy with York as our "base camp" generally.
  20. So the kids think they are having a bad time eh? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...in_page_id=1811 More Mel Gibson human sacrifice s found.
  21. Very well, I will undertake the invitation. We will therefore need to be accommodating ( in terms of appropraite dates) if we have a "star" guest . Though I would of course extend that billing to AD as well.
  22. So T.Rex mutated into something even more hideous: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/arti...in_page_id=1965
