Ask The Expert
Sextus Roscius replied to Sextus Roscius's topic in Renuntiatio et Consilium Comitiorum
oh ok then, does that mean he is not coming back, aw. Oh well, thank you Viggen -
No, he is not guilty of murder. The man was let into the room to look at the meats by the butcher but instead went to commit suicide by tieing this neck to the ceiling and standing on a block of ice. Once the heat from the outside of the room caused the ice to melt he was hung. The melted ice explains the pool of water. Also, this one is wrong. I went to town on my horse named Friday on the Day of the Week Tuesday, spent ONLY two days there, and came back on The day of the Week Thursay

Just a brief question. Why is the "Ask the Expert" topic in The Empire forum no longer pinned?

Well made concerns Tobias, these are temporary titles meant for honor only. Anyone who gets to upity can have their title (and membership) striped by our wonderful Admins. I also mean that with knowing many of the people who would be more likely to receive titles, there would be little chance of one getting to upity. I'm sure we aren't going to find too many people on a Romanophile website that are going to consider themselves higher becuase they are, lets say tribune, for a month or two. I think it depends on how far we go with different titles. And what for. Overall I'm glad people are at least commenting on my ideas.

Vatican The Last Vestige Of The Roman Empire
Sextus Roscius replied to emperor's topic in Templum Romae - Temple of Rome
I believe the vatican is only Roman in the sense that they never lost their title. Thought you can hardly call some one Roman becuase they speak Latin. The people of the vatican don't hold any old Roman traditions, they don't follow the Roman social system, and to call the Vatican Rome would be an insult (in my mind) to Rome's legacy which I don't think was lived up to by the Vatican or its members. Sorry if I offended anyone... I have some what biased views on the Vatican. -
ok, here is a really lame one. I went to town on Friday, stayed two days, and came back on Thursday. How is this possible?

Has no one said the Sybil books from the oracle at Cumae that were suppose to tell the future of Rome that were only consulted in times of dire peril. Its a shame, when the Romans finaly bought them from the Oracle, most of them were already gone. They were kept under the temple of saturn but were unfortunatly destroyed durring a fire.
-
Salve Magister, Excuse my Latin if it is incorrect. I digress thought, I was wondering whether the Romans knocked(on peoples doors) with their foot or their hand. I've read different things in different places and would appreciate it.

As Flavius said, thats histerical. I'll just remember that when I need a laugh! "Go to hell!"

Most certainly Germanicus, all of these would be rewards for contributions and there wouldn't be any special privleges to the people recieving the honor titles, just prestige. I don't think there would be any fighting between the groups becuase most people on UNRV (expecialy the ones likely to recieve these titles) are good natured people and don't want to cause trouble. Also as Germanicus said, these are Honorific titles.

No! I've got it Lost Warrior. Every Direction is south so you are at the north pole, that would make the only bears out there (if they even live taht far north) white!

I think they should make a movie about Cicero's valiant defense of the Republic and democracy over the Empire he knew was to come, the end of it could be caesar taking position as dictator, with his parade into Rome. That would be exciting, be a good movie in terms of complexity, not be romanticized (little opertunity with Cicero's firm Republican values) and action, there would have to be a scene with the seige at brundisium, the faithful old senators sailing out of italy as the city is sacked ashore.

To sum up what I get from your ideas: The hierarchy Admin/Mod Patrician Equestrian Plebian If we have temporary titles as a reward for something special or great, the receiver of the title would still have the same capabilities and status as their official hierarchy status (Patrician, Plebian, Equestrian) but a temporary title instead of it just saying the military rank, or it could go in the place of their class status. I'm unsure as to how to get the Tribunes working, but depending on how we do those it could be a fun thing. If we could get Ideas on that I'd be delighted, perhaps more details from the people desiring to be them? I like the idea of changes the consilium comitia to the plebian assembly but I don't particularly want to segragate the classes. Anyways, at least were getting some where from the drawing board. Ideas? (as stated by the others, No Nova Roma.)

Good point, I forgot about the black bears. I've heard this one before. Its the type of thing my sister would ask me to make me look stupid.... Wait! theres no bears in the south!

I have a religion in a sense, which is not Christianity, Budhism, Hinduism, Islam, or Polytheist. I am a Athiest which in a sense is a religion. I'm an Athiest for certain reasons. My religious stand-point has gone through several phases. This was one of the trials of my life. 1. When I was a little kid I was a christian. I was not old enough to think if something was logical or illogical yet so a full heartedly believed in a higher power. I didn't know the things I know now and nothing was stoping me from seeing things in a religious way. At this point I was even arguing that God existed and I ocassionaly, but not often, prayed for something to happen. I hoped that God would some day fix problems on earth and solve the suffereing and problems I knew existed. 2. Later on, in about 2nd grade, I made a friendship with a now great friend of mine. He was obsessed with history, WWII in particular, was very religious, and was also a Republican. He was one of the deciding factors I beleive that shaped me into the person I am today. He was very interested in the Nazi Party, and at that age we weren't conscerned about how horrible something was, or how good something was, all we cared was what it was, how it happened, why it happened, who made it happened, and whether it was cool. This gave me a equal stand point on WWII, I knew about the halocaust, but becuase I had also learnt about all the advances the Nazi party had made in terms of war-fare and engenieering I had a different opinion on it. I not only saw what happened, but what made it happened. That spirt has lived on with me, and I began to question all what I beleive to be clear flaws and warps of reality in Christianity. I was now uncertain over whether it was right or wrong, whether the earth was gods creation or not. I saw both good and evil in everything becuase of all my time with my friend. I began to wonder why God would make something evil do good things, and if God is all forgiving, why does he only give you one chance at life. I didn't beleive in reincarnation, but I was then at that point an Agnostic, unsure of what to do. 3. The third phase of my religious stand point took place a few years ago when I became obsessed with Rome and her glory, power, prestige, genious, and culture. Rome had a ever changing effect on my life in a religious stand point. It was at some time durring my reading that I heard a few words that changed me. "A little known fact, is what is poupularly beleived is commonly true" In those words, I realized to myself "why would one sixth of the world be right, while the other 5/6s are wrong? So many people can not be mistaken, and if 1/6 is right, then by rule, they should be able to provide enough proof to prove their point." and so I was confirmed by that as an Atheist. I was a shaky one at best, but still an Atheist. Later on I studied science more, read the works of great people, and overall became more knowlegable about the world around me as I grew older. The older I got, the more of an Atheist I was. Thus comfirmed in my non-God beleifs. If anyone i wondering why I've written this peice on my religous stand point over time. Don't ask, I myself am not sure.

Under what emperor would you want to live
Sextus Roscius replied to WotWotius's topic in Imperium Romanorum
Ha ha ha, Agustus's daughter? My you've got to be daring to go there. Personaly I'd like one very loyal (not to mention beautiful and in love with me) slave girl who folowed me everywhere(as stated) and all my other slaves wouldn't be oh so special to me, I might keep a few pretty ones around for the guests pleasure (and to make me look rich) Otherwise I'd keep to strictly Republican Virtues. Sorry to Digress thought. I was thinking that perhaps a nice villa life somewhere in naples or some lovely, almost cliffy, seaside position in Sicily under Agustan Reign of course, right durring the Pax Romana Prospering off those born every minute -
Under what emperor would you want to live
Sextus Roscius replied to WotWotius's topic in Imperium Romanorum
Perhaps one wouldn't have to live under an Empoer to be a senator? Just a thought. It seems the pretty serving girl seems to be catching on. Personaly I'd like to get one to follow me around were ever I went. Perhaps the equivilent to how steven saylor portrays Tiro (Cicero's right hand slave) or on the same matter of steven saylors books, some one along the lines of bethesda. -
Get Your self a name change Trajan, I'll still call you Trajan thought. Now if I could get one "formorly known as father-killer...(sextus Rocius commited patricide) Anyways. I had always viewed it from that one point that Nero was a decent musician. I'll look into it more now, thanks Trajan.

I like this Idea, I think patrician criteria should be changed as P.P. had mentioned in a earlier post. I think this is the right amount of stuff to take from all the extreme ideas I through out the other night. Perhaps we can see what other members think about this?

A new hierarchy might be (just brain storming) 1.Admin 2.Mods 3.Patricians/senators/holders of honor offices 4.Low ranking officials/ holders of honor offices. (This class would come inbetween for the purposes making a more complex hierarchy and dividing things up. They would be given a superior status in terms of reward for contributions or the position temporaroly from a honor office) 5.Equestrians/holders of honor offices 6.Pleblians 7.Slaves The holders of honor offices could be selected by the senate and/or admins and would hold that position. The position of different offices would be equivilent to a permant status of the same level. However that would be a honorary position so while it would hold the equivilent to a status, it wouldn't get certain benefits of the status. I did this as a general sketch of my ideas so they can be open to ctique and revision by others as I realize this is very sketchy and is in great need of refining. P.S. I seem to be on a posting streak today this being my 21 post... Does anyone have anything to contribute, becuase I see countless people starring at this thread for hours and then don't post anything, so, Ideas?

If You Could Meet One Roman Emperor
Sextus Roscius replied to Tiberius Sylvestius's topic in Hora Postilla Thermae
I'd like to meet Hadrian (I've got a deep running hate towards him becuase I think he signed the Empires death warrant) and then yell in his face about how stupid I think he is. After that I wouldn't be seeing any more Roman empoers, and not becuase he was the only one I wanted to meet.
